The Worldview on the Economy
Laos projects the worldview that the economy is the country’s driving force. However, economic development relies on the context of each nation. Lao People’s Democratic Republic is a country blessed with natural abundance, which is regarded as the country’s strength. The natural resources, therefore, should be used for the country’s economic development. In other words, the natural resources are the country’s capital which will lead to its economic development. Hydroelectricity, in particular, will be key to the leap in the country’s economic development into a modern industrial nation. Nevertheless, Laos also expresses the worldview that although the western capitalist economy that is controlling the world today has played a role in the country’s economic growth, copying the west’s economic model must be conducted with care and caution because the consequences of capitalist economic development could be destructive to the country and the people, as already seen in the detrimental results of careless economic development based on capitalism of such great power as the United States of America. |
